Underground Diesel Tank Cleaning Project for a Council in Norfolk

Public-sector organisations across the UK often call upon DP Fuel Tank Services to undertake specialist fuel-related work. One recent project involved travelling to Norfolk to carry out a full internal cleaning and degassing. We also carried out the inspection of an underground diesel tank serving a council’s facilities. With a tight project window and the need for careful planning, our team mobilised swiftly and arrived on site.  We were ready for a two-day confined-space entry operation. The primary challenge was safe access to the underground diesel tank. Our priority was ensuring full compliance like always. These are based on confined-space regulations and gas monitoring protocols and strict safety procedures. Before manned entry could begin, the remaining fuel was pumped into secure temporary storage. The tank atmosphere was carefully assessed and all the necessary tools was prepared for a safe and controlled entry. Once inside, our experienced confined-space operatives carried out a thorough internal clean. We removed sludge, contaminants as well as accumulated residues. In short we removed anything that can compromise fuel quality or in any way damage equipment. We completed a full degassing process to ensure the tank was safe for ongoing maintenance as well as future use. Our engineers performed a detailed internal inspection following the cleaning phase. They checked for corrosion and structural defects and even compliance issues. This gave the council clear info regarding the tank’s overall condition. They were also told about any potential long-term risks.
